Atlanta

Why the Southeast is a paper story

More paper is produced in Georgia than in any other state, and the mill base running from the coast at Savannah up through Augusta and west into Alabama pulled an entire converting industry in behind it. Where there are mills there are box plants, and where there are box plants there is paper dust on every horizontal surface in the building.

That is the defining characteristic of this territory. A corrugator in north Georgia and a corrugator in eastern Pennsylvania have the same problem, but the density here means the Atlanta crews run that scope more often than any other, and they run it on a schedule rather than as an emergency.

Two of the customers Kelly names publicly, International Paper and Georgia-Pacific, are built on this industry. Georgia-Pacific is headquartered in Atlanta.

What this region makes

The industries these
crews work in most.

Kelly serves every industry from every center. These are the ones concentrated inside this territory, which is what the crews here see week to week.

Paper and pulp

Georgia produces more paper than any other state, and the mill and converting base running from Savannah through Augusta and across into Alabama is the reason this center exists. Fiber and dust accumulation in a mill is continuous, which makes most of this work a recurring program rather than a one-off.

Corrugated and packaging

The converting plants that follow the mills, concentrated around Atlanta, the Carolinas and north Georgia. Starch, adhesive and paper dust on corrugators and the steel above them.

Poultry and protein processing

Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina carry the densest poultry processing base in the United States, under continuous USDA inspection. Sanitation there is relentless and the overhead and structural work still has to happen around it.

Automotive

The Southeast assembly corridor through Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and the parts base feeding it. Kelly names Mercedes among its customers, and Alabama is where Mercedes builds in the United States.

Beverage and food

Bottling and food production across Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas, in plants that audit hard and schedule tight.

How it works

Who turns up,
and when.

Full-time Kelly employees

Every technician who walks into your plant from this center is a Kelly employee, trained to Kelly procedures and carrying Kelly insurance. No brokered labor, no local subcontractor filling in because the drive is long.

One number, wherever you are

888-422-2623 reaches Kelly directly. There is no regional switchboard and no call center. The call routes to a specialist who will tell you which center covers your plant and what the schedule actually looks like.

Scheduled against your window

Shutdowns, sanitation shifts, changeovers and planned outages. The survey sets the scope and the crew size is built for the window you have, rather than the window we would prefer.

Multi-site programs run as one

A group with plants in several states is one program with one point of contact, not one contract per site. Centers cross territory lines for these, which is what the overlaps below are for.

Shared territory

2 of the 6 states assigned to Atlanta are also assigned to another center. That is deliberate, not an accident of the map. It means the nearest available crew takes the work rather than the one the territory line says owns it.

  • Alabamaalso Jackson
  • Tennesseealso Chicago, Jackson
The other centers

Five more crews,
covering the rest.

Coverage is all 48 contiguous states. If your plant is outside this territory, one of these is the one that reaches it.
